A Special Trip for a Special Team

Happy July! We are already halfway through the year, and I hope that you’ve been able to begin planning (or begin enjoying) your summer holidays.

This newsletter is a bit different and a bit more special than previous ones, as I want to tell you about Tokeny’s recent team building event that happened earlier this month in Barcelona.

As you know, the Tokeny team hails from around the world working in various countries remotely. We have colleagues from 16 nationalities and counting, with different experiences, cultures, and personalities that help make Tokeny the unique company that it is. Although we function very well remotely, it is important that we take the time to meet up in person to share, learn, and enjoy our time as a collective unit.

Why teambuilding is so important

Team building is crucial in any company, as it creates a moment where colleagues can shift their focus from their daily work objectives to a collective focus on the team itself. These activities bolster our motivation and provide opportunities that allow us to reconfirm our objectives and professional goals as members of Tokeny. And, of course, it gives us time to take part in fun activities both during and after the workday.

These activities are even more important for remote companies, as it is rare to have interpersonal interactions in this setup. Team building for remote teams, especially in a beautiful city like Barcelona, creates excitement and a more relaxed environment where we can express ourselves and communicate in a more enjoyable way. I strongly believe that remote work has boosted our productivity, but let’s face it: Brainstorms and chit-chats are extremely hard and boring via video calls.

An intensive program that united our team forever

Throughout the three days, we took part in many activities which gave us better insight into our company goals – both long and short term – and a chance to form stronger bonds with each other.

When we arrived Sunday evening, it was immediately clear how excited we were to be a part of this trip. For many of us, it was the first time we saw not just new people from the company, but many people within Tokeny’s team.

Some of our activities on Monday and Tuesday brought us together to further strengthen our company vision and objectives. They included our monthly “CEO Talk”, a Ted Talk-style presentation called “Tedkeny”, and collaborative team building exercises.

We also wanted to create lasting memories together for each of us as a collective group. We all went on a catamaran in the early evening and sang karaoke at night which let us all bond with one another and discover some hidden skills.

As we gave our goodbyes Tuesday afternoon, we realized how splendid the team building trip was. Even though we all go back to our homes in different parts of the world, we each felt a bit closer together in our relationships and Tokeny’s vision for the future as we departed.

Final Thoughts

The excitement we had in seeing each other was truly remarkable. As our company grows in stature, so do we grow in numbers. Since January, our team has almost doubled in size. We could all feel the communal sense that we know our company and products are very unique, and as we continue to push forward, we will achieve our goals and overcome any obstacles in our way.
